Predictions

Can you believe it? It's an election year again! Might as well dust off the park bench. After all, this is going to be where the important races are decided.

Predictions

Post by auntmartymoo » October 8th, 2017, 11:56 pm

I have given up making predictions forever.

I've proven, in writing, how badly I suck at it on numerous occasions...

There was the time I thought Obama would pull a Jimmy Carter and get ousted because of the shitty economy.

And the time I was certain that Jeb would never run for president because all I had heard for 15 years was that Jeb was busy grooming his son George P. for the job.

And the time I said America would never elect a billionaire if we didn't elect Romney...because if he wasn't squeaky clean enough, no one would ever be. hahahahahahahaha

So now that I've bared my soul, let's hear your best and worst predictions

I think it is still to early for any reality-based predictions except for generalized "GOP will lose a few seats in both chambers", - UNTIL we see if Congress passes any meaningful legislation by mid-2018.

Of course, a lot of folks don't mind having a lack of meaningful legislation passed by Congress

i've a few howlers in my past...

i was sure al gore was going to run and win the presidency in 2008.
that he wasn't even running didn't deter me one bit..."ever hear of a brokered convention? huh...what about a brokered convention?...it could happen"

as a matter of fact, i convinced myself that the '08, '12 and '16 republican national conventions would all be brokered and acceptable candidates would be fielded.

and my latest shame?
i was positive that we the people, in our infinite wisdom couldn't possibly elect an itinerant hotelier, haberdasher, vintner, executive producer, real estate mogul, ed-yoo-cator, purveyor of fine meats, and free lance carnival barker...(and a vulgar one at that) as president of the united states.

that one still smarts.

Let's hope that was a long time ago.

my vote matters.
every election, local, state or national...primaries, runoffs & the general, i'll be at the polls, picture i.d. clutched in sweaty hand, ready to exercise my franchise...as every good american should.

and almost inevitably, my candidate gets his or her ass soundly kicked.
or they lose by some arcane, abstract, obsolete, 18th century, constitutional quirk.
(and one would think; had the electors lived up to the founders expectations, they might have rethought their votes...but what the hell?...they all probably think federalist 68 is a popular video game)

anyway...my candidates lose.
nearly every time.
which might give one pause to ponder whether their vote really counts.

not me.
i've got something a little more powerful than a single squandered vote in my hip pocket.

i've got bitching rights.
and this year, i've been screaming bloody hell.

you've heard the complaints about my type for years: sore losers, poor sports, all that cheerful horse manure...
and my favorite?:
"did you vote?...if you don't vote, you don't get to bitch..."

well i did...and i do.

"civil rights.
strong national defense.
fiscal responsibility.
strict construction."
these are core conservative issues.
and ones that have received short shrift since january.

so what the hell?
live a little, coe...
piss your vote away...and then cajole, proselytize and harangue anyone stupid enough to ask your opinion.
i do it all the time.

call me silly but i believe my voice counts...even if the idiots in washington fail to hear it.

At first I was thinking that a vote from me in a presidential primary was the kiss of death, but when I reviewed my record... not so!

Presidential Primary votes:

1988 Voted for Bush, but only because Kemp dropped out early.
1992 Voted for Bush, but only because Buchanan's personality rubbed me the wrong way.
1996 Voted for Forbes, but really wanted Kemp at the top of the ticket... or anyone but Dole
2000 Voted for Bush
2004 Voted for Bush
2008 Voted for Mittens
2012 Voted for Mittens (was repulsed by all of the other candidates)
2016 Voted for Jeb (considered Rubio, but was repulsed by all of the other candidates)

I wish it was. Nope I have pretty much given up on seeing much change in my life time. And then we are turning things over to a bunch of kids that believe they are entitled.. We are so screwed.
